In October 2019, NDS Foundation had the privilege of donating $75,000 for a beautiful place that honors Nicholas’ deep faith and love for this country. The Nicholas D. Sergi Reflection Space will serve as a fitting tribute to this important aspect of Nick's life.
The Reflection Space will be housed in the new Quiet Wing at the USO Naval Station Great Lakes Center which was conceived to address an important need within military life: an oasis from the strain of military life.
The Nicholas D. Sergi Reflection Space will be among a series of spaces for studying, media viewing and small group activities. Designed to be serene and inviting, the colors will be warm and muted, and the space will be anchored by a cool-to-the touch, vapor fireplace.
Opposite: Design Concepts for the space.
Longtime USO supporters and friends, Leopardo Companies, was chosen to do the work which is already underway with a grand reopening planned for spring 2021. Not only will there be a plaque telling Nick’s inspiring story of faith and generosity, but this summer’s renovations at the farm provided some beautiful aged barnwood which will be incorporated into the space. A fitting way to connect Nick’s life’s work and generous spirit with his respect and admiration for those who serve our nation so proudly. In fact, the USO is has long been important to the entire Sergi family including, Joseph Sergi who serves on the board of directors.
Ideal for meditation, prayer or simple, quiet moments, and tucked away from the hustle and bustle of the rest of the center, the Nicholas D. Sergi Reflection Space will be a welcome respite for our servicemen and women for years to come.
